A Phenomenological Research on Social engagement experience of Old People Participating in Circles

Abstract
This research aimed to understand what and how old people joining circles and what are the man meaning and essence which circles endow old people. This research analyzed data by using phenomenological study of Giorogi. The researchers of this study conducted depths interview with 10 ole people who joined circles during 2 years at seniors welfare center in Seoul. This research consists of 4 themes such as `Daily lives of the elderly who do not feel lonely`, `Power to change the life`, `Vitality that makes seniors forget their age`, `Volunteer activities beyond learning`. The essential meaning of old people circles experience is `Another power of daily lives of the elderly by choice and autonomy`. We confirm that old people circles are comprehensive activities such as learning, lifelong education, leisure activities and volunteer activities, which enable seniors to join community society as a member of society. The main suggestions on this study are as follows. First, old people circles should be recognized as the important activities of social participation and also spread beyond the level of lifelong education and leisure activities. Secondly, community and welfare environment should be constructed to effectively solve various problems of the senior through old people circles. Thirdly, the elderly empowerment education for the new role in old age should be strengthened. Finally, that old people circles are activated can contribute to intergeneration integration and the local community development.
